This notice explains what personal information this website collects, why, and what happens to it. I’ve kept it short because the site collects very little.
Who runs this site
Bexhill West is my personal site about building a model of Bexhill West station and the modelling tools I make along the way. I also run the Make It Miniature online store, which has its own privacy policy. If you have any question about your information, please use the contact form.
What I collect
The contact form. When you send a message, I receive your name, your email address, the topic you chose and your message, by email. I use them only to read and reply to your message, and I don’t add you to any mailing list. I keep messages only for as long as I need them to deal with your enquiry.
Comments. If you comment on a post, the site stores your name, email address, website (if you give one), your comment, your IP address and your browser type. The IP address and browser type help to spot spam. Every comment is held for me to approve before it appears. Once published, your name, website and comment are public, but your email address never is. Comments stay on the site until you ask me to remove them.
Nothing else. The site has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and I don’t sell or share your information with anyone.
Cookies
Visitors get no cookies unless they choose one. When you leave a comment, you can tick a box to have your name and email remembered for next time; that sets a cookie in your browser for up to a year. The contact form and the online tools set no cookies. Some tools, such as the FrameForge app, remember your work in your own browser’s storage so it’s there when you come back. That stays on your computer and never reaches me.
Other companies involved
- IONOS hosts the website. Like any web host, its servers keep short-lived logs of visits, including IP addresses, for security.
- Microsoft Outlook receives contact form messages, which arrive in my email inbox.
- YouTube (Google) supplies the video thumbnails on the home and Videos pages, so your browser fetches those pictures from YouTube’s servers. Nothing plays or tracks you until you click through to a video on YouTube itself.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr supply lettering and program code to the TramIT! planner and viewers, and Google Fonts supplies ScaleIT!’s lettering, when you open them.
- Gravatar (Automattic) shows the small profile picture beside a comment. To find it, the site sends Gravatar a scrambled code made from the commenter’s email address, not the address itself.
Each of these services receives your IP address when your browser contacts it, and each has its own privacy policy.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information I hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, including any comment you’ve left. Just get in touch. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
